Sandwell's big parking announcement

I see in the local paper that Sandwell is giving free parking on Saturday & Sunday in the three weeks run up to Christmas.

One little problem Sunday's have always been free, or is that about to change?
Oh and the cost for parking will double.

yes up to 80p/hour to park, with talk of up to £4 per day in some of our towns !

I can only think that out of town shopping centres and local supermarkets car parks will be packed with Sandwell residents enjoying free parking all year round with some open till 10 pm, in the run up to Christmas.

Well done Sandwell  !!

Thanks for nothing, yes nothing is what the traders and people have got for Christmas
How many more will follow WBBS and close before Sandwell see the light

Labour and your Petrol

Just in case you forget
When Labour came to power in 1997 the fuel duty on unleaded petrol stood at 36.86p per litre. When they left office in 2010 it had risen to 57.19p per litre
(HMRC, Hydrocarbon oils: historic duty rates, link).

Now Labour jump up and down at the pump price
but this is what Labour idea of a stabiliser did to the price of petrol when they were in office
12 rises, with plans for another 6.

1.02/07/97 – fuel duty rose to 40.28p per litre
2.17/03/98 – fuel duty rose to 43.99p per litre
3.09/03/99 – fuel duty rose to 47.12p per litre
4.21/03/00 – fuel duty rose to 48.82p per litre
5.15/06/01 – fuel duty rose to 48.82p per litre (having briefly been 46.82p)
6.01/10/03 – fuel duty rose to 50.19p per litre
7.07/12/06 – fuel duty rose to 51.52p per litre
8.01/10/07 – fuel duty rose to 53.65p per litre
9. 01/12/08 – fuel duty rose to 52.35p per litre (having previously fallen to 50.35p)
10. 01/04/09 – fuel duty rose to 54.19p per litre
11.01/09/09 – fuel duty rose to 56.19p per litre
12.01/04/10 – fuel duty rose to 57.19p per litre

Labour also planned for six further fuel duty rises after the election.

Labour's March 2010 Budget, delivered by Alistair Darling set out six further rises
(HM Treasury, Budget March 2010, p. 8, link).

13. 01/10/10 - 1p rise
14. 01/01/11 – 0.76p rise
15. 01/04/11 – 1p rise in real terms
16.01/04/12 – 1p rise in real terms
17. 01/04/13 – 1p rise in real terms
  1. 01/04/13 – 1p rise in real terms

We have scrapped most of Labour's rises, But ask yourself would Labour really scrap them?

What is Good Business Sense?

While Sandwell Um & R about a few days free parking, or have meetings to decide if parking charges should go up, I see that a forward looking shopping centre is extending the opening times of business over Christmas period and they also offer FREE parking.

This will undoubtedly help their traders still suffering from Labour's mess and give a welcome boost to jobs for local people.

Hold on ??? before you get in the car and rush off and risk getting a parking ticket, its not one of the 6 towns of Sandwell, sadly its the old favourite Merry Hill.

I wonder who else will move to Merry Hill ?, its simple maths

Other Boroughs have shown their intentions, What About forgetting your anti car Policy
for a week or two.
It might even boost trade in our towns !

I wonder why the West Brom building society moved the Merry Hill?

Are Labour having a Laugh

Labour showed how well they ran our economy spending and taxing their way through their last term in office, ending in mess we are now all in.
Now its Labour's policies to consider the parking charges in Bearwood
Just what are Labour thinking  ?

If they introduce these proposed parking charges, just how long will it be before customers move to other towns and out of town shopping.
We firmly believe Labour's parking charges have killed West Bromwich the only one that will benefit
is Merry Hill shopping centre.

Is that why the West Brom building society
moved the Merry Hill?

Labour Spent all the Money

Having a trawl around the websites today I almost had a hernia laughing, I write about
Sandwell Councils leader and his Statement "It's good to talk money!"

Apparently the council want people to conduct an on line survey on spending

Quote
We're doing our best to cope and manage these cuts so we can focus our spending on the things we believe are most important to local people.

I wish they had done this years ago, so I ask him a few questions

The Public is it over £75 Million yet ? And how much a year is it costing?
Why did you demolish the Gala Baths in West Brom, turn it into a car park and for 10 years promise a new one?
Why demolish loads of good solid houses, with never a new brick laid?
Why demolish loads of good solid flats, with never a new brick laid?
Why has the new Police station got no cells or a staff car park?
Why are so many High street shops closed ?
Why did the roof at the Council house in Oldbury leak when it was new ? And how much did it cost?
How much are you spending on temporary staff?

Just think If there had never been a public , there would never have been a one penny cut in Sandwell,
and tell us
Will the council tax go up because there are no elections in 2013? and who will you blame?

Quote
You can also complete the survey on one of the computers at our 19 libraries in the borough

Will the Libraries be open Mr Cooper or will your team close them ?

And in answer to your
quote
In an ideal world we wouldn't be cutting budgets,

Its not an ideal world after your Labour Party mates spent all the money, leaving us in this mess

But one of your Labour colleagues also thought it was good to "talk about money"
remember 'Dear Chief Secretary, I'm afraid to tell you there's no money left",  note.

If you've forgotten see this link for a reminder

or go to, Labour's left NO money...just this sick note

Setting the Level

In the days of old (1960's) the UK was a world beater, we had the TRS2, Blue streak,English electric Lightening, Concord,

We had Electrical companies like GEC, AEI, BICC, English Electrical, Ferranti , Bush, McMichael, RGD, Decca, Hotpoint etc the list is to long

We even had a few car companies as well, Rolls, Rover, Austin, Morris , Ford, Vauxhall, Triumph , Riley, Reliant, Morgan, Jaguar, Landrover, Hillman and not forgetting a company in East Anglia called Lotus.

The UK produced the best quality rolled steel in the world and our Tool steel was was a big export.

For our younger viewers sit down first and Google any of the above and you will find what the "Great" meant in Great Britain.

Most of the older politicians sat "O" levels or "ordinary " and then went on to "A" Level or advanced level, a few like me sat CSE's or "Certificate in secondary education" and some like me were double entered for both the CSE's and "O"levels, just in case.

a CSE grade 1 was the equivalent to a grade c "O" level and very well respected, you had to sit a number of core subjects and a few self chosen.

Then we had the years of madness (1970's) with Strike after strike , bread strikes , sugar shortages , Electricity blackouts, Petrol stikes, and the dead were not buried, yes not buried , then the Fire brigade went on strike and the Army in their Green goddesses Army Fire Engines patrolled the streets.

Slowly but surely education was changed, at the time they said it was for the better but then reports came in that the UK was slipping down the international education tables. Strangely enough the countries that were overtaking the UK in the education stakes were the very same countries we had given our old Matriculation system to.

They were using the British system and it was us that had changed. the French called their version of their Matriculation system the Baccalaureate

Even now a few hours after the announcement that the old system is coming back, we hear the boo hoo politics start

Sandwell Tory said
If the old way was good enough for the politicians who rule us now , why don't they want it to come back?

Sir Winston Churchill, once said "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery". how correct he was
